The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is a large technology-related tradeshow held in Las Vegas each January. The Consumer Electronics Show is one of the largest and most influential tech events in the world, showcasing all the latest innovations and developments.
The CES includes exhibits by major tech companies, startups and keynote speakers. Panel discussions and keynote presentations are also held.
Remote meetings with a sharp edge
Dell, a technology company from the United States, impressed attendees of this year’s CES with its new Dell UltraSharp Monitor. The world’s very first 6K display features IPS Black Panel technology, which delivers a deeper black and higher contrast.
Dell’s Hot Tech Study found that IPS Black monitors provide 41% deeper black levels, and up to 1.2x better colour accuracy compared to traditional IPS4 displays. This is especially true when displaying low grays.
Android joins the satellite-based SMS party
Qualcomm announced its Snapdragon Satellite initiative at CES. This is a new project to bring “next generation premium Android smartphones” with satellite messaging. Qualcomm has partnered with Iridium – a company that owns a communications satellite constellation in low orbit – on this project. This could be useful if you’re outside of cell coverage, and you need to know where you are.
Nvidia uses artificial intelligence (AI), to improve blurry YouTube videos. This technology was demonstrated by the company at CES, Consumer Electronics Show.
This feature will be available next month on all Nvidia GPUs in the 30- and 40 series. It will use AI to upscale videos that are played on Chrome or Edge on a computer to 4K resolution. It is similar to the AI-upscaling function available for Shield TV Pro and Shield TV since some time. When enabled, RTX Video Super Resolution improves the clarity and details of low-resolution video, making it look more like the original high resolution version.
The Ella smart buggy is a motorised stroller developed by Canadian startup Gluxkind. It is intended to provide a “hands free” solution for parents of young children. The stroller is equipped with sensors and cameras to assist it in navigating. It uses artificial intelligence to detect potential hazards on the road, such as people and bikes.
The Ella is able to drive by itself when empty. When a parent holds their baby, it will follow automatically. The stroller will automatically stop if it encounters an obstruction to avoid collisions. The stroller’s cameras detect moving and stationary objects, and warn parents of potential danger via sounds and flashing light on the handle.
OLED display with peak brightness of 2,000 nit
Samsung unveiled a new smartphone with an OLED panel that has a maximum brightness of more than 2,000 nits during CES 2023. The panel was called UDR (Ultra-Dynamic Range) and certified by UL Solutions. It is considered to be the best mobile display technology from Samsung.
The peak brightness of the panel matches that of Samsung’s recently announced S95C and S90C Quantum Dot OLED televisions. Samsung Display’s new panel has also been awarded a UDR luminance rating of 1,500 nits.
Your living room will be clean and tidy
LG Electronics has unveiled a new 97-inch OLED television that can stream content wirelessly with the Zero Connect Box. The box is plugged in, but it can be up to 30 feet from the TV. Users are able to watch their favorite shows and movies with no messy cables and cords.
Fun road trips
Holoride is a German company located in Munich that has developed a VR headset to make car trips more fun and reduce motion sickness. The headset lets passengers play video games or watch TV or movies on streaming platforms or browse social networks while in a vehicle.
This can reduce car sickness by allowing passengers to feel as if they are in a virtual world while they drive. The Holoride VR headset allows passengers to experience immersive adventures, such as flying, fighting robots, or swimming under water instead of just looking at the road.
